The power of resilience
Resilience is defined as the ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
It can also be defined as the ability to become strong, healthy or successful again after something bad happens.
I believe if we are going to get through the inevitable moments of difficulty in our lives, we need to learn how to recover and bounce back. Resilience gives us the ability to overcome obstacles and deal with difficult and life-changing events easily.
I strongly believe it is necessary to foster resilience in order to overcome adversity.
How can you develop resilience?
1.Focus on building relationships.
Studies have shown that strong, supportive relationships are one of the primary factors in resilience. Whether it’s family, friends or colleagues. Having role models, encouragement, support, love and trust is important to the ability to overcome adversity.
2.Avoid the victim mentality.
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” one could ask if there’s anything they did that might have brought on this trouble, or anything that they failed to do, and one can make better choices, moving forward.
- Lean on your faith.
As a born again Christian I strongly believe that meditation on the word of God and prayer help us recover our strength and purpose when we feel lost, vulnerable or alone during difficult times.
In Psalm 34 :19 the word of God says “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” meaning that we are going to face adversity but God will see us through it all.
In conclusion, I believe what makes the difference between someone who barely survives tough challenges in life and someone who meets these challenges head-on and thrives is the presence of resilience.
